About

Marchesi Pancrazi winery is in Tuscany, 20 km from Florence between Prato and Pistoia, spread around the Villa di Bagnolo and consists of 5 hectares of Pinot Noir vineyard, about 3,500 olive trees and 45 hectares of woods. The Villa di Bagnolo was built in 16th century by the Florentine family Princes Strozzi then it passed to the family of the Marquis Pancrazi by inheritance. Chance played a fundamental role in the history of Pinot Noir at Villa di Bagnolo, in fact in the '70s when the Marquis Pancrazi wished to replant the vineyards of Bagnolo, the grapevine nurseryman erroneously supplied, instead of the traditional Sangiovese vine grown in these areas, Pinot Noir. Only after a few years, Pancrazi realized the error and understood the potential given by the terroir and therefore converted the whole production to Pinot Noir since 1989. Even today it is possible to visit the experimental vineyard with 13 different clones from which the 7 actually clones were selected.
