About

Belmond Hotel Splendido is a luxurious 4‑storey hotel perched on Salita Baratta 16 in the picturesque village of Portofino, Italy. The building’s roots stretch back to the 16th‑century, when it served as a Benedictine monastery that endured repeated ransacking by Saracen pirates. Over the centuries the structure fell into disrepair before being acquired by Italian aristocrat Baron Baratta in the nineteenth century, who converted the property into a stately family summer retreat. In 1901, Ruggero Valentini purchased the estate and launched the first incarnation of the hotel in 1902, establishing it as a haven for dignitaries and cultural luminaries. Since then, the venue has welcomed figures such as Winston Churchill, Rex Harrison, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Groucho Marx and many members of European royalty. Today the hotel blends historical charm with modern luxury. Its rooms offer sweeping views of Portofino’s harbor and the surrounding Mediterranean coastline, while guests can enjoy the on‑site Chuflay Bar and Restaurant, and the hotel’s signature service that reflects its storied past and contemporary sophistication.
