The agritourism, I Gelsi di Santa Cristina, originates from an ancient monastery situated in a picturesque valley immersed in the Umbrian countryside, four kilometres from the centre of Gubbio. I Gelsi di Santa Cristina is composed of six apartments fully furnished and equipped with all comforts, built from old stables that originally housed the farmers’ animals and those of the monks who once lived there. The agritourism is nestled in a protected area where wild animals live. The names of the apartments are inspired by various species of birds which can be seen in this area: la Cinciallegra (the Great Tit), la Ghiandaia (the Jay), l'Usignolo (the Nightingale), l'Upupa (the Hoopoe), il Picchio (the Woodpecker), il Gheppio (the Kestrel). The apartments have fully equipped kitchen or kitchenette, bathroom, private garden, parquet flooring and antique furniture, satellite TV and internet access. They have double or twin rooms, with the possibility of adding an extra bed. Cot beds, changing mats and anything you might need for your children will be made available if necessary. The apartments are designed to meet different needs: some are arranged on one floor, others are on two levels and still others are designed to accommodate disabled guests. Guests can enjoy a common green area that overlooks the valley and the orchard. The garden has a well equipped play area for children, and an area with a wood-burning oven and barbecue. The property has been designed and built with total respect of the surrounding environment and with the intention to avoid waste by reducing the consumption of energy and water. The entire complex is powered solely by electricity produced by photovoltaic panels. All the apartments have an underfloor heating system and the kitchens are equipped with electromagnetic induction plates. The agritourism is immersed in an environment where harmony and tranquillity reign, and whose melody is composed by the birdsong and by the flow of a nearby stream. Even light pollution is reduced to a minimum and the exterior lights can be switched off to enjoy the beauty of the night sky.
