About

The "Madonna della Ripa" church was built in 1370 by the Benedictine monks, as the first parish of the village. After the deconsecration, that took place after the unification of Italy, the religious building had various uses over the years, both civil and military, up to its conversion into a diocesan museum dedicated to sacred art. The church has slate columns, stylized capitals, pointed arches with double ferrules and painted with stuccoes in black-white bands, typical color and architectural style of many Ligurian buildings of worship. The cuspidated bell tower dates back the 15th century, with three floors of mullioned windows. The church is connected with the adjacent oratory of the Assumption, built to house the Confraternity of the Flagellants. The oratory is covered by frescoes, restored in 2006.
