The Basilica di Santa Croce, standing in the historic heart of Lecce, is a dazzling example of Baroque architecture that has captivated visitors since its completion in 1695. The façade, with its six elegant columns and a grand rose window, boasts intricate grotesque figures and detailed coat‑of‑arms that pay homage to local nobility and the Spanish influence of the era. Inside, the Latin‑cross plan is illuminated by a richly carved wooden caisson ceiling and houses seventeen altars, each adorned with works by renowned local artists such as Francesco Antonio Zimbalo.
