About

Following the historical street numbers of the Rione Pianelle from which the scattered hotel takes its name, the guestrooms of the Pianelle resort develop on three levels and all have independent entrances. Faithful to the memory of places, design is sober and minimal, in symbiosis with suggestion of interiors, partly built and partly carved into the tufa stone. References of functionalism are not lacking as the Lampe de Marseille designed by Le Corbusier in 1949, which, with its two reflectors orienting light beam in opposite direction, creates special chiaroscuro effects. Essentiality and sustainability blend in with furnishing strictly made by companies involved in the EU’s “Legal Wood” project for the sustainable world’s forests management. Beauty, style and harmony with nature are perfectly integrated within the Pianelle resort, offering guests unique and unforgettable experiences. Suite Subdivo | Ipogea Deluxe Subdivo | Ipogea Comfort Single Why Pianelle Resort What yesterday was know as Chianella, the ancient toponym of the medieval district where many trades extramoenia- outside the high walls of the Civita- took place, today is named Rione Pianelle, landing place for travelers discovering the outstanding universal value of the Sassi and the Park of the Rupestrian Churches of Matera, World Heritage Site. Here, among vicinati- courtyards- voices, rocks and memories from the past, takes shape the Pianelle Resort scattered hotel, the tribute by Donato Iacovone to his family and hometown: Matera. Everything is recovery and everything is recovered, an ancient wisdom that is renewed today as in the past. Sacrifice becomes project and contemporaneity. The result is a fil rouge linking seventeen unique places where living is a challenge and a conquest. Perspectives on internal landscape. The Suites ipogee, carved into the rock, 62 and 65, are privileged places where you can observe the other landscape, the internal one. The presence of fire, the large hearth-red-stone and the archaic calcarenitic walls, take you back to ancient times. A point of view on the past and on the rupestrian culture. Water, essences and light variations, invite to psychophysical balance and well-being suspended in time. Perspectives on external landscape. The Suite sub divo coelo, in the ancient meaning built under the shining sky, 38 and 68, are privileged places where you can observe the external landscape. The Suites sub divo are perfect for you that do not want to miss a minute of the stay in Matera. Impactful are the enchanting views on the Church of San Pietro Caveoso and the rocky spur of the Madonna dell’ Idris where architecture and nature come together. Colours, fragrances and relax are all enclosed in our Suites: aromatherapy, colour-therapy, nebulized and waterfall jets, underline the style. The Deluxe ipogee, carved into the rock, offer an intimate experience of hospitality with elegance, warm and welcoming ambiences in which your individual needs are met. Each one 49-50-51, is unique and has a special feature. The ancient canals and cisterns for collecting waters, with their monumental nature, become the key elements in all our rooms. The Deluxe sub divo coelo, in the ancient meaning built under the shining sky, offer impressive perspectives of surrounding landscape infusing unique and unforgettable sensations: the room 54 bright and airy with an amazing view on San Pietro Caveoso Square, the seventeenth- century room 41 rich in sculptural elements and developed on two staggered levels, the room 43 where the incredible view overlooking the Park of Rupestrian Churches and windows frame the murgia landscape as in the Henri Cartier-Bresson’s b/w photos, taken in 1950’s. The Comfort rooms are perfect for you want to be comfortable in the heart of the Sassi within walking distance from the stunning historic Piazza San Pietro Caveoso. Intimate and cradling rooms, each one unveils its own proper character with refined details in line with the traditional Sassi architectural style: from the wooden ceiling of room 42, the pavilion vault of room 40, to the round-arched vaults of rooms 48, 55 and 56.
