Castle Tyrol South Tyrolean Museum of Culture and Provincial History
About
Castle Tyrol – the South Tyrolean Museum of Culture and Provincial History – is a striking blend of medieval fortification and contemporary museum at Schlossweg 24 in Tirolo / Dorf Tirol. The 11th‑century castle houses a permanent collection that traces the region’s evolution from the Middle Ages to the present day, featuring elaborate towers, the richly decorated Kaisersaal, a crypt, and vaulted galleries that host rotating exhibitions. In addition to the physical museum, visitors can experience the virtual tour of the “Tower of Memories” and participate in interactive programmes for children – the historic “Kinderschloss” lets young guests step into the past as princes and knights. The museum is open every day except Monday from 10:00 to 17:00, with tickets starting at €10 for adults. Family tickets and reduced rates are available, while children under six enter for free. Guided tours are offered in German, Italian and English, and are available on a first‑come, first‑served basis for individual visitors; booking is optional but recommended for school groups.
