La Bauta
About
Atelier La Bauta is a family‑run Venetian workshop that has been crafting handmade papier‑mâché masks and historical costumes for over twenty years. Located on S. Polo in the heart of Venice, the studio offers an extensive collection of more than 500 designs, from classic Carnival masks to Baroque and Comm‑media‑dell’Arte pieces. Visitors can view the live production process in the open studio, purchase masks for home décor or rent authentic period costumes for special events. The atelier also runs workshops where participants learn traditional mask‑making techniques. A visit takes about half an hour and reveals the meticulous craftsmanship and centuries‑old traditions that define the Venetian mask‑making heritage. The studio’s rental service provides costumes ranging from the 15th to 19th centuries, available for 24‑hour rentals with a discounted rate from the second day. Workshops cover all aspects of mask creation, from papier‑mâché shaping to elaborate feather and crystal decoration, and are suitable for all skill levels.
