About
The Fondaco dei Tedeschi, a Renaissance‑style landmark on Venice’s Grand Canal, once served as a bustling trade hub for German merchants. Rebuilt after a 1505 fire, the four‑storey structure features a broad courtyard, a glass‑and‑steel roof, and a striking loggia that now accommodates luxury retail and dining. In late 2024, the department store was closed permanently, and the rooftop terrace shut down, effectively ending public visits as of May 2025. The site remains a testament to Venetian history and architectural hybridity, blending Islamic arches with Italian Renaissance frescoes.
