About

The Ducal Palace of Sassuolo (Palazzo ducale di Sassuolo) is a shining example of Baroque architecture in Emilia‑Romagna, Italy. Originally a medieval castle that the Este family acquired in the 15th century, the palace was transformed into a ducal residence by Borso d’Este in 1458 and later redesigned by Bartolomeo Avanzini. Today it houses the Gallerie Estensi, showcasing a remarkable collection of 17th‑century frescoes by Jean Boulanger and other court painters, as well as sumptuous stucco decoration and allegorical ceiling panels. Its lavish interiors are complemented by a grand garden that echoes Versailles, featuring a large fish‑tank (“Peschiera”) and elegant fountains. The palace welcomes visitors with a mix of historical art and contemporary exhibitions, making it a must‑visit destination for lovers of art, history, and Baroque design.
