Grotte Di Castellana
About
The Grotte di Castellana, a karst cave system located in the municipality of Castellana Grotte in Apulia, is a popular show cave that has been open to visitors since 1932. The main gallery, known as La Grave, offers a dramatic underground chamber illuminated by a skylight that filters beams of sunlight onto stalactites and stalagmites, creating a spectacular visual effect. The tour can be taken through a 1‑km itinerary lasting about 50 minutes or a longer 3‑km path that takes roughly two hours, with guided night tours available during the summer months.|plural|The caves feature a number of unique geological formations, including the renowned White Cave, impressive concretions and eccentric stalactites, as well as a dedicated speleological museum honoring Franco Anelli. With its accessible public entrance, rich history of exploration, and educational programmes, the site attracts families, history enthusiasts and adventurous travelers alike.
