Crotto Belvedere is a rustic gem tucked into an ancient limestone cavern in Valchiavenna’s sleepy town of Piouro. The cool, constant temperature of about 8 °C, created by underground air currents, preserves and matures the restaurant’s specialty dishes; its menu showcases the region’s beloved salumi, cheeses, traditional gnocchi, polenta, and hearty meat stews. Guests can enjoy the same hearty fare in one of its three intimate rooms—Sala 1 (20 seats), Sala 2 (40 seats) and Sala 3 (40–45 seats)—or step onto a covered terrace with a direct view of the Mera River, simply at the end of a stroll through the valley’s old clapboard. The wine list runs local Valtellina offerings starting at €2.50 for a 250 mL pour, while the cellar showcases a curated selection of regional reds and whites.
