About

The Gaetano Filangieri civic museum is a place that can very well be considered unique in the world. It was founded in 1882 by Gaetano Filangieri prince of Satriano (1824-1892) and then opened to the public in 1888. It is located in the 15th century Palazzo Como, which in of itself is a rare example of neapolitan architecture from the renaissance. The building of Palazzo Como is commonly known as "the walking palace" because, to allow the modern Duomo street to be built, the ancient facade was moved by approximately 20 meters. Around 3000 works of art are currently housed in the museum, including paintings, sculptures, weapons, porcelains, majolicas, pieces of furniture, clothing, a rich library and the historical archive.
