About
The Museo Nazionale Ferroviario di Pietrarsa, housed in the former Royal Baroque locomotive factory, is one of Italy’s most evocative railway museums. Dating back to 1840, the site grew into Italy’s first locomotive plant before closing in 1975 and reopening as a museum in 1989 and again in 2007 after extensive renovations. Visitors can explore a rich collection that spans early steam locomotives, iconic war wagons, and a gallery dedicated to the 150‑year history of Italian rail travel, all set within the original factory buildings that capture the industrial heritage of Naples.
