Piazza Ducale
About
Piazza Ducale is the dazzling heart of Vigevano, a jewel of Renaissance urban design that invites visitors to stroll beneath magnificent arcades and admire the historic façade of the Duomo. The square, 134 metres long and 48 metres wide, was built in the early 1490s under the patronage of Ludovico Sforza and showcases a harmonious blend of 15th‑century architecture and later Baroque embellishments, including the fan‑shaped Scarpa d’oro walkway and the imposing Bramante Tower. Visitors can explore 20th‑century frescoes that echo the original 15th‑century style, marvel at the marble statue of St. John of Nepomuk, and browse boutiques and cafés along the covered road, the longest in Europe. Whether you’re a history buff, art lover, or simply looking for a relaxing urban escape, Piazza Ducale offers a vibrant mix of culture, shopping and local charm.
