Villa Roberti
About
Villa Roberti is a beautiful example of splendor of the Venetian pictorial and architectural Renaissance. Around 1550 Andrea da Valle began the monumental complex destined to become the home of the Roberti family, above the foundations of the medieval Castello dei Maccaruffo, of which the tower and the Gothic well in front of the Barchessa still remain. Andrea da Valle, a coeval of Palladio and Falconetto, finished the works in 1553. At the same time, Veronese, Zelotti and Fasolo - around 1550, were called to fresco the external walls and internal halls of the Villa. The Paintings of the Villa are certainly among the first works carried out by the group of Veronese artists. The frescoes are inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses, which narrate the loves between gods and mortals. The stories narrated in the frescoes served as a warning and example to the young married couple, Francesco and Lucia Roberti, to whom the villa was intended.
