Founded by the Jesuits in the late 16th century, the church’s elegant façade, with its intricately carved portals and statues of Saint Ignatius and Saint Francis of Assisi, leads into a richly decorated nave that showcases masterpieces from the 1680s, including cherubs on lions, the Sun of Justice, and a large marble shield bearing the name of Jesus. Behind the church lies a museum that houses a remarkable collection of paintings, stucco, and carved woodworks collected from the church and associated Jesuit institutions. Visitors can explore six museological rooms spread over three levels, a sacristy, a crypt, and the celebrated oratory of Procopio Serpotta. Guided tours are available for a small fee, offering insight into the symbolism and artistic heritage that adorn every corner of the complex.
