Palazzo Abatellis
About
Palazzo Abatellis is a Renaissance‑style palace that now houses the Galleria Regionale della Sicilia, a museum with collections from the medieval to the Baroque periods. Located in Palermo’s historic Kalsa quarter, the 15th‑century Gothic‑Catalan building survived wartime bombing and has been lovingly restored to showcase works by Antonello da Messina, Caravaggio and other masters. Visitors stroll past 12th‑century wooden sculptures on the ground floor, through the former chapel’s frescoes, and up to the iconic “Virgin Annunciate” on the first floor, all set amid elegant courtyards and richly ornamented halls. With its central location and public transport links, the museum is a must‑visit for art lovers, history buffs, and families seeking a culturally rich experience in southern Italy.
