About

The Picasso Food Forest is the first public urban food forest in Italy and one of the most renewed worldwide. It's a half hectare public green area featuring more than 300 different plant species mostly edible such as fruit trees and shrubs (several heirloom or unusual varieties), aromatic herbs, medicinal plants as well as autoctone plants typical of the forest that once used to dominate the padana plain. Fruits are available for tasting to visitors. Plant labels help identifying the plants present and over 35 information panels describe the project and some specific natural science aspects. The area hosts a rich animal biodiversity including insects and birds. There is also a wildlife pond with 30 different species of aquatic plants. Guided tours for groups can be organized upon request but the area can be easily accessed and visited in autonomy. The site can be reached by bus line 8 or 23 from the station and the city center.
