About

At the foot of the small medieval town of Chiaramonte Gulfi, in 1990 Antonio Scrivano and his wife Giovanna Picciotta founded the bar called "Bar Pentagono". Even today, Antonio Scrivano's sons and wife lead this family activity, keeping an eye on the customer courtesy satisfaction. At the "Pentagono", customers find feelings lost in childhood, those ancient and authentic feelings of the past, which were the result of a work that coming from the historical, familiar and oral transmission of recipes. The "SCACCE", or buns stuffed with tomato, basil and cheese (the Ragusano DOP), or with eggplant or onion, dried tomatoes and parsley, or others with ricotta cheese and broad beans or onion and sausage; cauliflower; spinach have a special culinary importance, in various forms and flavors since remote times, they have been some of the most traditional and popular dishes in our city; and "MPANATE" (a word coming from the Spanish word empanada, left to us by the Spanish domination), buns stuffed with chicken, turkey or lamb meat, traditionally eaten at Easter. Everything is strictly based on products chosen for their freshness, and mixed with exclusive extra virgin olive oil, DOP Monti Iblei. Some other specialties include: the "MURSIONI", that is an almond milk, made by placing finely chopped almonds in infusion with water, and then squeezing them to bring out all the juice, with a completely manual procedure. The almond or lemon "GRANITE", a semi-frozen hand-made dessert made of sugar, water and almond or lemon flavorings, in the traditional manner. If you love the simplicity of a well prepared dish and the typical traditional cuisine, here you'll come back again.
