Il Mare Libreria Internazionale has been founded in October 1975. From then, the bookshop became a benchmark, a port of call for all those people who love sailing, racing, swimming, fishing, exploring the underwater world. The bookshop includes all kind of titles relating to the sea and its culture, such as history, gastronomy, folklore, and marine traditions. Fourty years of activity represent a piece of history. The International Bookshop Il Mare has promoted so many events that to mention them all would require an endless list. In any case it is sufficient to cite those of particular interest because they contributed to changing people’s mentality and establishing a new attitude towards the sea. In fact, the sea is no longer perceived as a space to be pillaged and plundered, but to be admired, protected and studied in order to understand its biological richness and diversity. The staff of Il Mare have always been ecologists, apart from any political implications.
