Le Tavernelle
About
Le Tavernelle, tucked in the heart of Rome’s Monti district, traces its roots back to 1870 and proudly claims to be the city’s oldest trattoria. Founded by renowned chef Nicò Ambrosì, the restaurant has welcomed generations of Romans, film icons, scientists and political figures, most notably Federico Fellini, who paid homage with a signature dessert, the “Dolce Vita.” The menu is a love‑letter to traditional Roman cuisine: pasta al cacio e pepe, spaghetti alle vongole, abbacchio alla romana and the ever‑popular risotto all’angelo, all prepared with the finest local ingredients. The house specialty, the “Dolce Vita,” is a silky caramel‑infused custard that’s become a ritual for diners. Walls echo rich history, adorned with portraits of Fellini, Mario Monicelli and other luminaries, creating a nostalgic atmosphere that feels both intimate and grand. Service is friendly and attentive, making the space ideal for families, couples and food‑enthusiasts alike. Reservations are recommended during peak evenings and weekends. The venue opens daily from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm and again from 7:30 pm to 11:00 pm, offering a relaxed dining experience in the centre of Rome.
