About
The La Verna Museum is an important part of the monumental complex of the Franciscan Sanctuary of La Verna, situated on Mount Penna, an isolated mountain of 1,283 m in the centre of the Tuscan Apennines and of the Foreste Casentinesi National Park. The place is known especially for its association with Saint Francis of Assisi , who, after long periods seeking solitude and prayer among the beech trees clinging to the rough crags, received the stigmata. He left the green slopes in the custody of his brother friars, who through their “ecological” vision have left the wood intact. The history and life of the friars of La Verna along the centuries is shown in the museal exposition, together with several masterpieces of the franciscan art.
