Grotte di Borgio Verezzi
About
The Borgio Verezzi Caves, also known as Grotte di Borgio Verezzi, are a stunning karst cave system located near the town of Borgio Verezzi in Liguria. Discovered in 1933 and opened to the public in 1970, the 800‑metre tourist route winds through a series of bright, colourful chambers illuminated by natural light and featuring massive stalactites, stalagmites, and dramatic dripstone formations. Visitors can walk along a paved path and marvel at the vivid mineral‑coloured concrections, from translucent cannulae to delicate draperies that seem to hang from the ceiling. The caves boast an extensive collection of prehistoric animal bones dating back millions of years. Guided tours of about 40 minutes are available in several languages, and the site is particularly popular during the spring and autumn months when the weather is mild and the crowds are thinner.
