In Tuscany, between Florence and Siena. in the area of Chianti, near Barberino Val d’Elsa, on the summit of a hill, 310 metres above sea level, lies a group of houses and a luxury villa which preserve the name of the ancient “Castello di Cortine” (Castle of Cortine), attested to it in 1037. The word “Cortine” comes from neo-Latin; from the term “curtis” meaning court. La Canonica di Cortine offers accommodation in various private villas. Villa Castrum ( sleeping 10 or 14 ) is our top accommodation, a luxury ancient villa carefully restored to make our guests' stay unforgettable. The main entrance leads to the frescoed main hall, a large and light living room with several sitting areas, a magnificent fireplace and a piano; the ground floor also features the country-chic kitchen equipped with a large cooking hob, oven, microwave oven, espresso coffee machine, fridge with freezer, dishwasher, wood stove, the dining room with vaulted ceiling and fireplace, the relaxing TV room, one double bedroom with private bathroom with shower and one additional bathroom with bath tub. When rented together for 14 guests an inner door will be open to connect the Villa to its dependence featuring one double bedroom with en suite private bathroom, one twin-bedded room, one toilet, one kitchen equipped with fridge, freezer, oven, dishwasher, Italian coffee machine Moka, dishes, washing machine. A side door leads to the private garden and to the swimming pool which is at exclusive use of the guests reserving Villa Castrum. The upper floor houses two double bedrooms, both with en suite bathroom, two twin-bedded rooms, one additional bathroom. A balcony, accessible from two bedrooms, runs along the façade of the Villa offering an amazing view of the Tuscan countryside and sunsets…. Villa Torre Vecchia is a charming country house consisting of four elegant bedrooms ( one twin-bedded room, two double rooms and one family suite with two single beds and one double bed ) with ensuite private bathroom, housed on the upper floor, each one unique and distinguished by wood-beam ceilings and ancient terracotta tiled floors, of a fully equipped kitchen, a living room with fireplace, an indoor dining room and a large and bright additional dining room housed in the Veranda overlooking the swimming pool. Villa Torre Vecchia featurs independent entrance and faces a large private garden with seating areas. Swimming pool available for the guests of Torre Vecchia ( not exclusive use ). La Canonica di Cortine also features six two-bedroom villas of different typology, independent one from the other. All our villas are unique and most of them distinguished by wood-beam ceilings and terracotta tiled floors. The elegant furniture, different in each villas, are original and carefully chosen for every room. All the villas features a private outside patio and some of them also a private garden to allow our guests to enjoy a pleasant and relaxing stay with us. The large gardens of the property and the outdoor swimming pool are at our guests’ disposal. Several very interesting tourist destinations are located a short drive from La Canonica di Cortine: Florence is only 25 km far from our property (Florence airport is 30 km), Siena, the city of 'Palio', is 35 km away, San Gimignano with it's towers is 25 km, Greve in Chianti is 18 km, Pisa is 95 km and Volterra is 50 km.
