Blue Grotto
About
The Blue Grotto is a spectacular sea cave nestled on the northwest coast of Capri. Entrance to the cavern is only possible during low tide, with a narrow 2‑metre opening that requires visitors to lie flat in a small, four‑person rowboat. Boat operators use a metal chain attached to the cave walls to guide the boat safely inside, while visitors pay the entrance fee to the floating boat just before entering. Inside, sunlight filters through an underwater cavity, creating a luminous blue glow that bathes the walls and floors of the cave. The resulting ethereal light paints the water a dazzling azure, turning the cavern into a natural prism that fascinates all who enter. Because the cave’s access is tide‑dependent, planning is essential: the best times are early morning during low tide, when the waters are calm and crowds are thinner. Visitors should also be prepared for a brief, guided rowboat ride that leads them safely into the heart of the grotto.
