Masseria Pilano
About
Masseria Pilano is an ancient farm dating back to the XVIIth century, situated on a large plain surrounded by the low hills of the pre-murgian area, 340 m. above sea-level, at the heart of the “Terra delle Gravine” natural park. The Masseria is not far from several nice towns in the province of Taranto: Martina Franca, Crispiano, Alberobello, Ostuni. The Masseria has been in the family since the XVIIth century and the actual owners, Pierpaolo Palmisano and his family live there all year long. For this reason Pilano is one of the best farms in the area, a place where the charm of the ancient buildings meets the modern farming zoo-technical structures creating a unique, accommodating ambiance perfect for the young and the old. The main activities of the Masseria is cattle-breeding, organic olvie oil production and durum wheat. A large part of the farm is composed of woodland with native Mediterranean trees and shrubs (mainly: oak, beech, heather, juniper and broom). These provide shelter for porcupines, wild boar, hare, pheasant, and many other wild species.Starting from spring 2007, Masseria Pilano gives tourists the possibility of staying in Trulli flats drawn from ancient XVII century buildings all around the main house. These Trulli flats, made up of two or three rooms, have all the facilities necessary to spend a pleasant, relaxing stay on a typical Apulia farm. Masseria Pilano is situated at the heart of the “Terra delle Gravine” natural park. Across from the woods and fields that we cultivate, about 10 km of white (dirt) roads and paths allow long walks through natural countryside that in spring and fall are ablaze in dazzling colours. From this area, with a brief journey along fascinating roads through the surrounding countryside, you can reach the best of Apulian artistic and historical centres: Martina Franca, Taranto, Ostuni, Manduria and also Lecce, Bari, San Giovanni Rotondo. The events held in Masseria Pilano characterize and render magical the best season of the year: summer. In the splendid corner, beneath clear starry skies, the tourists will be struck with flavours and odours of the old and the new.
