Piazza Tasso is the historic heart of Sorrento, a bustling public square that dates back to the Renaissance. It is framed by the striking Baroque Carmelite Church of San Carmine, famous for its gilded façade and the 17th‑century painting of the Virgin Mary by Onofrio Avellino. A bronze statue of Saint Antoninus of Sorrento towers above the square, while the lively pedestrian Via San Cesareo stretches to the west, lined with cafés, shops and artisan stalls. In the western arc of the square sits Palazzo Correale, a neoclassical palace that now houses the Museum of Sorrento, showcasing local history and art. Together the square’s architecture, religious monuments and vibrant street life embody both the cultural heritage and contemporary charm of this seaside town.
