About
The Gulf of Trieste is a shallow bay of the northern Adriatic Sea, spanning roughly 550 km² and shared by Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. With an average depth of about 19 m and a maximum of 37 m, the gulf features calm, nutrient‑rich waters that support a diverse marine ecosystem. Its shoreline hosts several prominent features—including the Bay of Panzano, the Bay of Muggia, the Bay of Grignano, the Gulf of Koper, and the historically contested Gulf of Piran—each offering unique scenery and opportunities for sailing, kayaking and coastal walks. Proximity to Trieste and the Slovenian Littoral makes the area a popular spot for both leisure and research, celebrated for its tranquil waters, scenic vistas, and rich cultural heritage.
