Castello Scaligero
About
From the top of the hill, the Scaliger Castle dominates Valeggio and the Mincio Valley with its unchanged and fascinating Medieval impressiveness. The ancient part of the castle was almost completely destroyed by the earthquake of 1117; only the Round Tower remained undamaged, and it is dated back to the 10th century. In 1285, the Lords of Verona, called Scaligeri, rebuilt and fortified the Castle of Valeggio sul Mincio, which was located in a strategic place for the defense of their borders. The rest of the castle was constructed in the 14th century. The castle had originally three bridges, but now there’s only one. It is a typical example of medieval fortifications. In the square of the Rocca, between the towers, you can enjoy a beautiful panorama. In the summer there are some entertainment events and open-air cinema. OPENING HOURS OF THE TOWERS The towers can be visited from march to october, on saturdays, sundays and holidays from 10.00 to 12.30 a.m. and from 03.30 to 06.00
