Janis Rozentals, one of the first Latvian professional painters, was born near Saldus. The artist has pictured Saldus St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran church in many of his paintings at the turn of the 20th century. His diploma work “After the Service” is particularly notable. In 2021 seven life-size bronze sculptures depicting characters from this painting were placed on the steps at the church. The sculptures represent various social classes, icluding Rozentals’ parents. It is known that the artist spent many Sundays by the church, sketching local people. The author: sculptor Sandis Aispurs.
