Pfaffenthal Lift
About
The Pfaffenthal Panoramic Elevator is a modern glass lift that links the historic Ville Haute district with the picturesque Pfaffenthal valley below. Open daily from 5:45 am to 1:00 am, the elevator offers a breathtaking, uninterrupted view of the Alzette River and city skyline as the cabin descends 60 m over 30 seconds. It is entirely free to use, making it a popular spot for both locals and visitors who want to experience Luxembourg’s unique topography without a price tag. Apart from its visual appeal, the elevator doubles as a functional infrastructure piece, improving pedestrian and bicycle mobility across the city’s steep terrain. Visitors can stay for as long as they wish to enjoy the panoramic scenes or simply hop on during their stroll through the city. Although the lift operates 24 hours a day in most places, it closes for maintenance every first Monday of the month from 9:00 am until 5:45 am the following day. The service is accessible to cyclists, pedestrians, and wheelchair users, and a small bike‑rental stand and toilet facilities are available at the lower entrance. A short walk from the lower entrance leads to the Pescatore Foundation Park, while the upper station connects to a network of cycling and walking paths that reach the city centre. Whether you’re a photographer seeking a unique shot or a family looking for a quick, scenic activity, the elevator provides a convenient and memorable way to see Luxembourg from a new perspective.
