Pont Adolphe
About
Adolphe Bridge, also known as the New Bridge, is one of Luxembourg City’s most iconic landmarks. Built between 1900 and 1903, the double‑arch stone bridge spans the Pétrusse Valley at a height of 42 m and extends 153 m in total length. Its central arch, 85 m wide, was the largest stone arch ever constructed at the time of its inauguration, earning the bridge a place among the engineering marvels of the early twentieth century. Today the bridge carries two traffic lanes on its upper deck, pedestrian walkways, and a dedicated bicycle path on the lower deck that was added during the 2018‑2020 renovation. Pedestrians can stroll across the arch, taking in views of the city’s historic Ville Haute and the distinctive Val de la Pétrusse. The bridge is open to the public year‑round and free of charge, making it a popular stroll for both locals and tourists seeking a quick architectural detour or a scenic walk along the river.
