About

The Barrakka Lift is a swift, 58‑metre elevator that whisk visitors from Lascaris Wharf on the Grand Harbour side of Valletta straight up to the historic Upper Barrakka Gardens. One 23‑second ride lifts passengers to panoramic views of the harbour and the city below, making it one of the fastest ways to travel between the waterfront and the heart of Valletta. Operated by Barrakka Company Ltd and introduced on 15 December 2012, the lift offers two 21‑passenger cabins and a flat €1 return fare for everyone, with free rides for Tallinja card holders. In winter (1 November – 31 May) it runs daily from 07:00 to 21:00, while in summer (1 June – 31 October) it remains open until midnight, allowing visitors to enjoy sunset views over the harbor. Situated just 500 m from the Valletta Cruise Ferry Terminal, the lift also serves as a convenient transit point for ferry‑railway and bus passengers heading into the city.
