About

St. John’s Co‑Cathedral, nestled in Valletta’s historic heart, is a baroque masterpiece and the spiritual centre of Malta’s Knights of St John. Completed in 1577, the cathedral boasts an awe‑inspiring interior adorned with Caravaggio’s dramatic "Beheading of St John the Baptist" and works by Mattia Preti, Grand Master‑donated tapestries, and a rich collection of silver artefacts. Visitors are welcomed into a grand nave, oratory and crypts that illuminate the artistic, cultural and spiritual heritage of Malta. Admission is modest—€15 for adults, €12 for seniors or students, and free entry for children under 12 when accompanied by an adult. The cathedral is open from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm (last admission at 4:15 pm) Monday through Saturday, remaining closed on Sundays and public holidays. For the most convenient visit, tickets can be purchased online via the official "Buy Tickets" portal, which also offers guided tours after visiting hours for groups that require prior booking.
