Teatru Manoel, Malta’s national theatre, stands proudly on Old Theatre Street in Valletta, a living testament to baroque elegance and centuries of cultural vitality. Designed by Antonio Azzopardi and Francesco Zerafa, the 623‑seat auditorium boasts an oval‑shaped auditorium, gold‑leaf–adorned boxes, and an intricate trompe‑l’œil ceiling that harks back to its 18th‑century origins. Since its reopening in 1960, it has hosted a vibrant mix of opera, ballet, dramatic plays, and contemporary performances in both English and Maltese, drawing local and international talent. The venue remains a cornerstone of Maltese artistic life, offering visitors an immersive experience of historical drama and modern creativity alike.
