BoerenBed De Kalverweide
About
Nearby the Weerribben lakes and the Havelte forests and with 3 national parks within a 25km radius is this active dairy farm. Fifteen minutes away by bike is the stunning canal-filled village of Giethoorn, while the Kalverweide itself offers panoramic views of glistening fields from the tents. A voluntary milking machine allows the 140 cows to decide themselves when to be milked. There are also sheep, plus over 100 young cows and calves to feed, some of them needing to be fed by hand. Ask soon after your arrival about your kids helping Goos on the farm and arrange a time. And ask about a “speurtocht”, a sort of Dutch-style treasure hunt. Kids can brush ponies Polly and Nikki, ride them for a small fee or take donkey Lucky and Layla for a walk. Just down the road is the charming and fun Indonesian garden zoo for even more cute animals.
