About
Markthal, officially the Market Hall, is Rotterdam’s iconic mixed‑use building that opened on 1 October 2014. The 40‑metre high arch is the world’s largest glass‑window cable structure, and inside the main hall a 11,000‑square‑metre digital mural called "Hoorn des Overvloeds" (Horn of Plenty) by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam covers the ceiling. The building houses a bustling food market, over 100 restaurants and cafés, 228 apartments, 4,600 m² of retail space, 1,600 m² of horeca, and a 24‑hour parking garage beneath it. Entry is free, and visitors can explore world‑famous stalls and designer shops while enjoying the dramatic light and artwork of Rotterdam’s first fully covered market.
