Centraal Museum, founded in 1838, is the Netherlands’ oldest municipal museum and a cultural landmark in Utrecht. It houses a vast and varied collection of over 70,000 objects that spans art, city history, fashion and applied arts. Highlights include the world‑famous Rietveld collection—especially the iconic red‑blue armchair—vibrant works by Dick Bruna and the famous Utrecht ship from the 1 st millennium. The museum’s rotating exhibitions showcase masterpieces from Utrecht Caravaggists, contemporary artists such as Pyke Koch and Marlene Dumas, and a 17th‑century dollhouse that offers a playful glimpse into the past. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the museum offers free admission for children aged 0‑12 and discounted tickets for students, seniors and museum card holders.
