Old Bazaar - Skopje
About
Old Bazaar (Stara Čaršija) in Skopje is a living testament to the city’s Ottoman past, featuring a labyrinth of narrow cobblestone streets lined with historic mosques, caravanserais and bazaars that date back to the 12th century. Visitors can stroll through the vaulted Bezistion, the two‑winged Çifte Hamam bathhouse, and admire the elegant stone arches of the 15‑th‑century Stone Bridge that spans the Vardar River. The bazaar’s most iconic landmarks include the Sultan Murad Mosque, the Daut Pasha Hamam, the Isa Bey Mosque and the towering Clock Tower, all of which showcase authentic Ottoman architecture and art. The area has been revitalised in recent years and now hosts cultural events, art galleries and a bustling marketplace where local artisans sell textiles, spices and souvenirs.
