Alnes Lighthouse
About
Alnes Lighthouse, perched on the scenic island of Godøya just off the coast of Ålesund, is a beacon of Norwegian maritime heritage. Built in 1876 and automated in 1982, the lighthouse’s 22.5‑meter square tower still stands proudly, inviting visitors to climb its winding stairs and enjoy sweeping views of the North Atlantic and the rugged Norwegian coastline. Inside, the Alnes Experience Center offers a thoughtfully curated museum with exhibits that trace the lighthouse’s storied past—from its early wooden construction to its modern-day role in guiding vessels. A contemporary art gallery hosts rotating exhibitions by local artists, while a cozy café serves traditional Norwegian dishes and sweet pastries, making it a perfect stop for families and solo travelers alike. The center is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., extending to 6:00 p.m. on Thursdays. Tickets are purchased on-site; children under six enter free of charge, while other visitors pay a modest fee (NOK 50 for ages 7‑15, NOK 60 for seniors/students, and NOK 100 for adults). Guided tours are available for those who wish to learn more about the lighthouse’s history and the surrounding maritime scenery.
