About

Godoy Coastal Museum offers some varied exhibitions over three floors in an old school building. The guide will take you through the three separate exhibitions, and tell you interesting stories about what you see. The museum has got an archaeological exhibition over some gold findings in a burial mound at the island Eilivsroysa. You can also learn more about the Viking era and the extensive trade that took place here back then. You will also find an extensive exhibition on the effects World War II had on this small community. Uniforms, artefacts, written materials and photographs tell dramatic and touching stories about the people who lived in Godoy during the war, and about those who left home to defend their country. In the basement you can learn more about the fisheries on the coast of Sunnmore, and there are a great many artefacts and objects that you can study and explore to see if you can guess what they were used for! The drying of split cod-fish to make klippfisk, and the industry of sealing and whaling is also presented at the museum, so a visit here will provide you with information on most parts of the coastal culture in Sunnmore.
