About
Rygge church is one of Norway’s oldest churches, and is over 850 years old. It is the largest, and most opulently-decorated Medieval church still in use on the eastern side of the Viken. It is constructed of gneiss and granite alternately with reddish-brown porphyry, and the craftsmanship is outstanding. It was built in the Romanesque style, with rounded arches. The altarpiece is from the first half of the 18th century, and was probably made by Thomas Blix. Tours for groups and organizations can be organized by calling tel. +47 69 26 44 81.
