OPENS FOR A NEW SEASON IN APRIL 2023 The Coastal museum of Øygarden is the perfect destination for a seaside excursion. Enjoy exhibitions about local coastal culture, guided tours to the fish farm Ljøsøy, or maybe a swim in the fjord at our Taremare Sjøbad. In our main building you will find exhibitions, cafeteria and our museum shop. We have several other buildings on our premises, some are open to the public. Our main exhibition “Life by the sea” tells the story of the very first Norwegians and how they used the available resources through the ages – from hunting to fishing and farming, from peat cutting to oil and gas, and now moving towards the green transition. Make sure to enjoy traditional pancakes from our cafe while you are here, if the sun shines enjoy it outside on our patio. The museum is a great starting point for a day in Øygarden. Several hiking trails are nearby, ask us for advice. Welcome to the sweet life by the salty sea, welcome to the Coastal Museum of Øygarden
