Lofotr Viking Museum
About
Lofotr Viking Museum is a living museum situated in the village of Borg on the island of Vestvågøya in Norway’s Lofoten archipelago. Built on the archaeological site of a Viking Age chieftain’s village, the museum offers the world’s largest reconstructed Viking longhouse, complete with a blacksmith forge and two full‑scale replicas of the historic Gokstad ship. Immersive reenactments bring the Viking world to life, while permanent exhibition halls and an amphitheater host interactive displays, a short film theatre, and seasonal visitor activities such as rowing the Viking ship and archery demonstrations. Open daily from May 1 to September 15, Lofotr provides a unique combination of archaeological insight, hands‑on experiences, and stunning coastal scenery that makes it a must‑visit destination for history enthusiasts and families alike.
