Botanical Garden
About
The University Botanical Garden in Oslo, part of the Natural History Museum, is Norway's oldest botanical garden, established in 1814. Housed in the historical Tøyen Manor and surrounded by a mosaic of thematic gardens and two lush greenhouses—Victoria House and Palm House—the garden offers an immersive journey through plant diversity from around the world. Visitors can stroll through carefully curated gardens that showcase Mediterranean, Arctic, alpine, and tropical species, while learning about plant conservation and ecological significance. Guided tours are available weekly in English and Norwegian, free of charge, and last for about an hour. The botanical grounds serve as an important recreational area for Oslo’s residents and a living laboratory for students and researchers alike, seamlessly blending horticulture, education, and public engagement. The garden is accessible to all visitors, including people with disabilities, and provides a calm, verdant escape in the heart of the city.
