Norges Hjemmefrontmuseum
About
Nestled within the historic Akershus Fortress in Oslo, Norway’s Resistance Museum offers a compelling look into the nation’s World War II resistance movement. The museum presents a chronological journey from the prelude in the 1930s through to liberation in 1945, featuring authentic artifacts, photographs, documents, posters, and audio recordings that bring the turbulent years of 1940‑1945 to life. Established as a foundation in 1966 and opened to visitors in 1970, the museum’s architecture and exhibitions were designed by Norwegian architect Otto Torgersen in partnership with key resistance personnel, creating an immersive and educational experience for history enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. With regular summer exhibitions and special events, it remains a poignant reminder of Norway’s resilience and the bravery of its citizens during occupation.
