About

Brick church from 1860, beautifully situated on a little hill by Ulven in the eastern part of Oslo. ostre Aker kirke (church) is built in brick, with eight granite columns inside the church. Most of the decoration was done in connection with a major renovation in 1928. The church only got electricity in 1925 and in 1928 they got chandeliers. They also installed cathedral glass in the windows, a new pulpit, new walls and a new altar. The altarpiece is carved and modelled in wood by sculptor Thorleif Sohlberg. The old altarpiece still hangs in the church. It shows Jesus talking to the Samaritan Woman, and is made by the artist Christian Brun. The rose window at the front is designed by Froydis Haavardsholm, made by art glazier G. A. Larsen. It shows Jesus blessing the small children.
