The museum is located within the walls of Fredriksten fortress, which dates back to 1661. Learn about how wars have touched the lives of civilians at the border, from 1658, until the peaceful dissolution of the union with Sweden in 1905. Our new exhibition The Fall of the King - the collapse of an Empire tells the story of King Charles XII of Sweden and his death at Fredriksten fortress, in 1718.
