Tromsobrua
About
The Tromsø Bridge, or Tromsøbrua, is a sweeping cantilever road bridge that links the mainland town of Tromsdalen to the island of Tromsøya. Stretching over 1,036 metres with a main span of 80 metres, it was Norway’s first cantilever bridge and once held the title of the longest bridge in Northern Europe. Opened on 3 July 1960, the structure ships the road FV862 across the Tromsøysundet, and its robust concrete ribs have become a skyline landmark alongside the Arctic Cathedral and the nearby Tromsdalstinden mountain. Visitors are treated to expansive views of the strait, the city centre, and the surrounding fjords—a perfect spot for photography, sightseeing, and catching a glimpse of the northern lights on clear nights.
